On 6th February, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) announced that the UK is the first major economy – of the top 20 countries – to halve its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions against the ‘1990 baseline’. In 2022 an overall fall in GHG emissions was observed with a decrease of 3.5% from 2021 and 9.3% from 2019.
These statistics show the UK is making significant progress towards net zero. The plan is to reach 68% by 2030.
